We never even met Roy, the namesake of Posada de Roy, but we did meet his delightful wife, Domitila. At least, I think that’s how it’s spelled.

Domitila spoke little to no English and with our basic Spanish you’d think the conversation would have been awkward but it was quite the opposite. You know when you instantly feel comfortable around someone and you feel like you’ve met them somewhere before? That’s how it felt with Domitila.

We were welcomed with the biggest smile and hug and, of course, a delicious lunch. We won’t forget the beautiful family that dwells on the cliffs of the canyon; they exuberated warmth and were our favourite part of the Colca Canyon trek.
